OTTAWA — Former Peoples Bank chairman Wint Winters was in stable condition at Ransom Memorial Hospital today. Winters, 80, was reported missing after he walked away from his home in the 1200 block of South Lincoln Saturday evening. Ottawa Police Lt. Adam Weingartner said Ottawa police used the “Child is Missing” automated reverse-911 system to call neighbors within a two-mile radius that Winters was missing. Weingartner said neighbors immediately volunteered to help the Ottawa police STAR team look for him. Forty people were searching when Winters was found and another 20 were prepared to join the search, Weingartner said. A team of volunteers found Winters in a creek near his home. The area was heavily wooded and steep, Weingartner said. Rescuers had to carry Winters in a rescue basket for about a mile to an ambulance, he said.
