GARNETT — The city of Garnett has been pushing Anderson County to conduct sales of delinquent-tax properties. Garnett City Commissioner Chris Maynard met recently with county commissioners to press for a tax sale. The city said the county hasn’t done tax sales in years. Maynard said a tax sale would get properties back on the tax rolls. He told the Anderson County Review that in addition, the city has to spend what amounts to a full-time employee each year in mowing and maintaining 20 to 30 properties that appear to have been abandoned by their owners. County counselor James Campbell said about 100 properties have been submitted to him to prepare for a tax sales. He says the county has to follow a particular procedure to conduct a sale. The county conducted a tax sale last year for mineral rights and county officials said they’re trying to wrap up that.
