MIAMI COUNTY–Within minutes, two accidents occurred last night, leaving two people dead and several injured. The accidents occurred on US Highway 169, near Stanton Road. Around 5:30 last night, a 2005 Cadillac passenger car was traveling southbound when it slid on the icy roadway, down an east embankment into a pond. The passenger, a Greeley resident, was able to escape. The driver, Mary Crawford of Garnett was trapped inside. She died at the scene. The other accident occurred afterward. A 2006 Chevrolet impala was traveling southbound on 169 when it crossed the center line and struck a 2000 Buick LeSabre head-on. The driver of the impala, an Anderson County resident, had three passengers, including her adult daughter, her 8-year-old granddaughter, and 1-year-old grandson. The 1-year-old was reportedly ejected from the vehicle. All the passengers and driver were sent to a Kansas City Hospital. The driver of the LeSabre, 66-year-old Mary Stussey of Wisconsin, died at the scene. The passenger of the LeSabre was transported to a Kansas City Hospital.
