GARNETT–Three officials have entered the battle for land. The “Anderson County Review” reports that USD 365 School Board members have asked to appoint attorney Craig Cole, real estate broker Scott Schulte, and banker Scott Cooper to appraise a portion of land they want to buy from Don and Susan Diebolt to use for the new elementary school. Diebolt wants $450,000 from the district, the amount he has invested in the property. After negotiations to pay Diebolt $285,000 failed, the Board asserted an eminent domain. As part of the domain, the court appoints a panel of appraisers to determine a fair value for the property. The panel will meet at 10am March 10th at the Anderson County Courthouse to begin the process. The land is located on US 59 and will cost $12 million to construct.
