RICHMOND — The Richmond Community Museum’s annual potato bar supper has been rescheduled because of earlier bad weather to Saturday, March 12, at the Richmond Community Building. Two Richmond natives who are now historian-authors, Todd Mildfelt and David Schafer, will present a Power-Point program about James Montgomery, the first Jayhawker, who they are writing a book about. Montgomery was depicted in the movie “Glory.” He commanded the 2nd South Carolina Colored Infantry Regiment and served in the Civil War’s most famous black regiment, the 54th Massachusetts, which was the focus of “Glory.”. Mildfelt is a teacher in the Osawatomie schools and Schafer is chief of interpretation and education at the National Park Service’s Brown v. Topeka Board of Education historic site. The museum will be open that day from 3 p.m. until as late as visitors are there to see the displays.
