OTTAWA — The investigation continues into an accident that killed a four-year-old Ottawa boy at 1040 S. Cottonwood Saturday afternoon. Police Lt. Adam Weingartner said the boy had been hit by a driverless vehicle that rolled down the driveway. The accident happened moments after the vehicle had parked in the driveway. The child’s 41-year-old mother and the woman’s 41-year-old boyfriend were present when the incident occurred and have been interviewed by police, Weingartner said. The child was taken to Ransom Memorial Hospital where he died. Evidence has been sent to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation laboratory and that alcohol may have been involved, he said. The Franklin County Sheriff’s advanced accident investigators assisted. Once the investigation is complete the case will be sent to the Franklin County Attorney, Weingartner said. No arrests have been made. Weingartner declined to identify the child.
