OTTAWA — Despite a push by Baldwin City, Ottawa remains in the lead of the Take Charge Challenge. City administrative assistant Leslie Quillen said thanks to the city’s campaign of switching older light bulbs for the more energy-efficient CFL bulbs, Ottawa remains firmly in charge. The energy-savings contest is based on other factors including population. Ottawa and Baldwin City are competing against Paola and Gardner. The winning city receives a $100,000 grant. Based on sheer numbers alone, Ottawa has switched more bulbs than any of the 16 cities in the state taking part in Take Charge challenges. Ottawans have switched more than 8,500 bulbs, or more than 3,000 bulbs than Parsons, which is the next city on the state list.
