GARNETT — Garnett has received 24 applications for police chief. Interviews could start this week and a new chief could be in place as early as mid-April, Garnett city manager Joyce Martin told the Anderson County Review. All of the 24 applicants are men and all have law enforcement experience, she said. Most applicants are from Kansas, but applications also came from California or Maryland, she said. Most applicants come from cities similar in size to Garnett, but some come from larger departments, she said. The city is looking for a successor to John Leinweber, who suddenly resigned in early February. Pat Tate, former police chief and current public safety director, is serving as interim chief.
