OTTAWA — Ottawa remains in charge of the Take Charge Challenge contest this week. City administrative assistant Leslie Quillen said Ottawans are widening the city’s substantial lead over three other northeast Kansas cities If Ottawa beats Baldwin City, Paola and Gardner by the end of the year, the city would receive a $100,000 grant. So far, Ottawans have switched nearly 9,000 incandescent light bulbs for the more energy-efficient CFL bulbs, she said. That leaves Ottawa at the top of list of 16 cities in the state taking in several Take Charge contests this summer.
