RICHMOND — Ron and Elaine Dunbar of Richmond have been named one of the top farm couples in the state by the Kansas State Extension Service and the Kansas Farm Magazine. He has been named a Master Kansas Farmer and she is a Master Farm Homemaker. Ron Dunbar is the third generation of his family to run the Richmond farm. After they were married, they decided to join his father in the farm operation. Ron Dunbar said to support two families, the farm would have to grow, a strategy he’s followed. He said that he was interested in cattle and cattle offered the best option for growth. The operation comprises more than 2,700 acres of owned and leased land. Besides source- and age-verified cattle which are marketed through U.S. Premium Beef, the farm produces grain, mainly corn and soybeans. They’ve been involved in the Franklin County and Kansas Farm Bureau, Kansas Livestock Association, and Kansas Soybean Association, FFA and 4-H. The Dunbars have three children. Janna is a district sales representative for Pfizer. Aaron farms with his parents. Ashley is a clinical nutrition specialist at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
