OTTAWA — Kansas transportation secretary Deb Miller said the Douglas County leg of the new U.S. 59 will be done next year. She met with Franklin County commissioners Wednesday morning in Ottawa to talk about proposed road projects. KDOT has awarded a bid for the pavement for the stretch of the four-lane expressway in Douglas County and the project should be completed in 2012. The stretch in Franklin County is completed. The controversial South Lawrence Trafficway, which KDOT intended as a bypass around Lawrence and connection to I-70 east of Lawrence, would connect to the new highway but is still tied up in court. She also said that K-68 east of Ottawa is one of the candidates for improvement projects in the next transportation bill. Rebuilding of the Davis Road intersection at K-68 is also being considered.
