WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture will offer more money to schools operating the USDA’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program for next year. Ag secretary Tom Vilsack said the extra money is part of the Obama Administration’s efforts to improve children’s health. The money is intended to provide free fresh fruit and vegetables to children throughout the school day, he said. New federal school lunch standards emphasize the serving of more fruits and vegetables to school children. Kansas will receive $2,286,251 million more.
