OTTAWA — The Franklin County Fair Board will find their recent purchase of the former Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter will be on their doorstep tonight when they meet. The future of the pet cemetery at the old facility has stirred controversy, especially among those people who have pets buried there. Ottawa attorney Derek Chappell is one of those people and he said he intends to be at tonight’s meeting. The fair board’s Brandy Shoemaker said the board will discuss the situation and will likely issue a formal statement at the meeting. The fair board meeting is tonight at 8 at Celebration Hall. The fair board bought the facility and cemetery when the animal shelter moved to a new site east of Ottawa and changed its name to Prairie Paws.
