BALDWIN CITY — Remember the president of the United States speaking at your graduation? That’s what students at Baldwin High are trying to do. During a discussion of who should speak at graduation, a counselor joked that President Obama should. Two seniors, Alex Daffern and Ann Wallsmith, took the joke seriously and entered Baldwin High into the “Race to the Top Commencement Challenge,” with Obama being the speaker. The seniors made a video explaining why Baldwin is the best choice. A committee will narrow down the choices to six schools in April, a nationwide vote will follow. The three schools with the highest votes will advance, where the winner will be handpicked by Obama.
