Wellsville – An unidentified woman was killed Sunday afternoon while walking along the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad tracks in Wellsville. The engineer and conductor say the woman was walking along the tracks underneath the K-33 overpass when she stepped in front of the eastbound train. Authorities were notified of the accident about 2:44 in the afternoon. Master Trooper Josh Kellerman with the Kansas Highway Patrol says the accident is being investigated as a possible suicide. The name, age and hometown of the woman have not yet been determined. The coroner pronounced the woman dead at the scene at 3:34 in the afternoon. Trooper Kellerman says the train traveled about 2,300 feet before it could stop. K-33 Highway was closed at the overpass for about two hours while law enforcement investigated the accident. The Franklin County Accident Reconstruction Team assisted in investigating the accident.
