OSAWATOMIE — During their spring break, Osawatomie students saw rockets, planes and balloons take flight at the Osawatomie City Auditorium. The Osawatomie Journal reported that the flying fantasy was part of the Osawatomie Public Library’s “Take Flight Day.” John Rayne, Paola flew a radio-controlled airplane made of foam up to the ceiling and down again. The foam plane cost about $60 and the controls about $100, he said. He and other RC pilots fly their model planes on weekends at Hillsdale Lake. With the help of Osawatomie High School art teacher Patty Trull, the kids flew four-foot hot air tissue-paper balloons. Kids also made and flew compressed-air paper rockets.
