OTTAWA — Democratic state Rep. Bill Feuerborn, Garnett, said he won’t be surprised if the Republican house and Republican senate end up in a deadlock over a budget for the state. The legislators are scheduled to return to Topeka in two weeks for a wrap-up session. Both houses have passed their versions of the budget and the different bills will go into a conference committee to iron out the differences. However, there are some pronounced differences and because of the likely impasse, what was supposed to be a four-day wrapup could turn into 14 days or more. The budget battle could cause a breakdown that could require Gov. Sam Brownback to call a special session to finish up, he said. Feuerborn spoke to Franklin County commissioners recently.
