GARNETT–For the second straight month, unemployment remains high in Anderson County. Four hundred-thirty-three were jobless in February, according to the unemployment figures released by the Kansas Department of Labor. The unemployment rate is 9.6%, down from 9.7% in January but higher than February 2010, which was 8.9%. For the state of Kansas, February’s unemployment rate was 7.2%, down from 7.4% in January 2011 and 7.5% in February 2010. In surrounding counties, Allen and Coffey Counties held steady in February. While Franklin, Linn, and Miami Counties reported slight increases in unemployment.
