OTTAWA — New county Commissioner Steve Harris said that because of higher health insurance premiums, county employees could get what amounts to a pay cut next year. He suggested that to give employees a bit more money, the pay of elected officials be frozen and that commissioners cut their pay. It’s the county employees who help the county provide services, and such a gesture would show the commissioners’ regard and loyalty to their employees, he said. He said he would be willing to donate all of his paycheck. It was a suggestion that didn’t attract much enthusiasm.
