OTTAWA–A Kansas State Department has issued a grant to an Ottawa Elementary School. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s Bureau of Waste Management announced last week that Lincoln Elementary will receive one of 24 Waste Tire Recycling Grants. The $17,000 grant will help fund replacing Lincoln’s playground wooden mulch with rubber mulch. The old mulch was expensive to maintain and had drainage, insect and rotting problems. The rubber mulch will be an environmentally friendly option. The mulch will be delivered and installed this summer.
