GARNETT–Garnett could have a new police chief soon. According to the “Anderson County Review”, Garnett City Manager Joyce Martin said that she and a selection committee have decided on a candidate out of 24 applicants. Martin said if the person accepts the position, he will be asked to meet with city commissioners and department heads soon. The chief position was left vacant by the resignation of John Leinweber in early February. The department is being supervised by Public Safety Director Pat Tate, who served as police chief until he was promoted to his current position in 2009.
