OTTAWA–The month of April is National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness month. During the Ottawa City Commission Meeting on Wednesday, the members decided that April 28th will be Child Abuse Awareness Blue Day. Those who wear blue apparel will spread the awareness of child abuse happening in Franklin County and nationwide. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, the National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month was established in 1983. Wearing a blue ribbon or apparel started six years later when a Virginia grandmother tied a blue ribbon around her car antenna to pay tribute to her grandson who died as a result of abuse and alert her community to the tragedy of child abuse.
