OSAWATOMIE–Kansas Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins was on hand Friday for the awarding of a posthumous Purple Heart to Corporal Mason G. Unruh. Unruh died a year ago after suffering traumatic brain injuries from explosions in Iraq. Unruh’s brother, David Unruh, told those gathered at the Elks Lodge that more needs to be done for injured veterans. Congresswoman Jenkins did not speak at the ceremony, but afterward said this was her first Purple Heart ceremony, although she has had to present the flag to grieving families of fallen soldiers at their funerals.
