OLATHE — Eight people were taken to hospitals Friday night after a two-vehicle crash on I-35 about a mile south of Olathe. The Kansas Highway Patrol said Ruby Sandoval, 15, of Kansas City, Kan., was going south on I-35. She missed an exit and decided to make a U-turn. She missed a paved emergency turnaround, went through the median and into the north-bound lanes and was hit by a pickup driven by 22-year-old David Brown, 22, Gardner, troopers said. Sandoval and four passengers were taken to hospitals. She and Maria Sandoval, 39, Kansas City, were taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Juan Arellano, 13, Kansas City; Emanuel Guzma, 13, Kansas City; and Mario Sandoval, 13, Kansas City; were taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City. Brown was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center, as were two passengers in his truck. They were Trillian Burnfin, 17, Gardner, and Zoewy Kesterson, 5, Gardner. Another passenger, Crystal Brown, 29, Gardner; wasn’t injured.
