RICHMOND — Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Curry said the cause of the fire that killed most of a Richmond family early Monday morning was likely an electrical malfunction.
The mother, Ashley Schendel, 23, and her daughter, Alexis Best, 9; are in stable condition in Kansas City hospitals, he said. Curry identified those who died in the fire as the father, Bryce Schendel, 25, and the couple’s other three children, Jace Best, 6, Ayden Best, 5, and four-month-old Zoey Schendel. Neighbors held a candlelight vigil in front of the burned house in western Richmond Monday evening.
