OTTAWA — Next Wednesday will be a day on the farm for the Ottawa City Commission. Or least, a day on the farm zoning regulations. City commissioners will consider a request by the city planners to change the city’s rules on agriculture zones. Presently, city ag zoning rules don’t allow churches in areas that have basic ag zoning categories, said city manager Richard Nienstedt. However, basic county zoning rules allow churches and the change will bring the city’s regulations in line with the county’s, he said. Because of an agreement with the county, Ottawa handles planning and zoning matters in a rural area immediately surrounding the city. That’s why the city now has some zoning rules pertaining to agriculture and farming.
