OTTAWA — A public hearing on demolishing a dilapidated house at 604 S. Locust has been scheduled by the Ottawa City Commission for next Wednesday. The owners haven’t been able to sell the house and it’s too expensive to repair, city planning director Wynndee Lee said. Although the owners want to remove the house, the city has to have a public hearing first, she said. The house is in a historically-significant area, and the Kansas State Historical Society has rejected the demolition. The city commission must have the hearing and then vote to override the historical society’s ruling, city manager Richard Nienstedt said.
