OTTAWA — Ottawa police officer Jeff Diehl has been promoted to sergeant. He will remain assigned to the patrol division and supervise a group of patrol officers, said Chief Dennis Butler. Diehl is the second officer to be promoted to go through a new promotion board and process. The process includes a written exam, writing exercise, an interview with a panel that includes a law enforcement official from another Kansas police department, a commander from the Ottawa Police Department, and Franklin County Attorney Heather Jones; a verbal presentation and an interview with Butler. Diehl has been in law enforcement for 12 years and previously served with the Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribal Police Department, the Gardner Department of Public Safety, and the Lenexa Police Department.
