CORNING — An Agroforestry Field Day is Wednesday at Corning in northeast Kansas. Lake Region forester Ryan Neises said the event will focus on riparian buffers. Ken Melvin of Corning said he started planting trees along Vermillion Creek on his property after watching floods carry away his top soil into the creek. Wednesday’s field day will examine the trees and the impact on the Vermillion Creek’s water quality, tree health, using trees for energy biomass, and managing timber production and livestock pasture as an integrated system. Call the Kansas Forestry Service at (785) 532-1000 if you’d like to attend. Check on-line at www.kansasforests.org. Registration begins Wednesday morning at 8 at the Corning Community Center.
