WASHINGTON — Start planting your favorite vegetables and stock up on those canned and frozen veggies now while they’re cheap. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says prices are going to up later this year. Last year, retail prices for canned and frozen vegetables dropped and the inventory skyrocketed, and as the costs for producing them increase, acreage for commercial vegetables and demand for processing vegetables from factories are both on the decline – the lowest since the 1930s, said Gary Lucier, USDA economist.
