GARNETT — Garnett native and Kansas governor and U.S. senator Arthur Capper is the subject of a presentation hosted by the Walker Art Committee Saturday. Historian Leon Graves will talk about Capper Saturday afternoon at 2 in the Archer Room of the Garnett Library. This is a special event held in connection with Garnett and Kansas’ 150th anniversaries. Capper was born in 1865 in a small brick home once located at East Fifth Avenue and Cedar Street in Garnett. A memorial, made out of the bricks of his boyhood home, is at the site of Capper’s house. He became a major figure in newspaper publishing and later served as governor and as senator. He also founded the Capper Foundation in Topeka for children with disabilities. For more information about Garnett’s 150th, check the Web site www.experiencegarnettks.com.
