TOPEKA — The Kansas Senate could approve a fix for the financially-strapped Kansas Public Employees Retirement System. The bill was hammered out by Senate and House negotiators in a conference committee and the Senate was poised to approve it and send it to the House. The bill would allow state employees to add more contributions to their pension accounts. Kansas Information Network’s Jeff Zehnder said the bill dropped one controversial House proposal to convert KPERS into a 401-K system. Senators said they’ll look at the issue over the summer.
