GARNETT — Anderson County USD 365 and the Kansas Association of School Boards will host a public forum on “suitable education” tonight at 7 at the Anderson County Junior-Senior High School auditorium in Garnett. Supt. Don Blome said the forum will give the public a chance to talk about what schools should be – or not be – doing as far as educating children. The Kansas Constitution requires the legislature to establish and maintain public schools for the intellectual, educational, vocational and scientific improvement, he said. The governor and legislators have been seeking a definition of what is a “suitable education,” he said. Defining suitable public education is best left to local school boards and local communities, he said. The community will be asked what their views on what a suitable education is, Blome said. Other school boards have been holding similar public meetings across the state. Ottawa held a suitable education meeting last month. The results of those meetings will be presented to the governor and legislators for the next session, he said.
