GARNETT — New memberships for the newly-opened Garnett Recreation Center have come in at the rate of about one or two per day. Garnett city manager Joyce Martin told the Anderson County Review that’s a little slower than she expected, but she said she is pleased with the number of people using the center since it opened May 2. Martin also said that donations continue to come in to help equip and operate the rec center. No tax money has been used to fund the center, she said. After the city received the National Guard armory after it was closed last year, the facility was converted into a rec center. The center will be open seven days a week.
