OTTAWA — Ottawa is running neck and neck with Baldwin City and Paola for the city that saves the most energy in the Take Charge Challenge. The points for the competition has remained tight and probably won’t be decided until September when it ends, said Ottawa Take Charge coordinator Leslie Quillen. But the city’s efforts will include two other strategies to stay on top – educating the public and encourage homeowners to do home energy audits, she said. Baldwin City has done in the ratings with its program of education, she said. She said Ottawa will also emphasize that the state will pay part of the costs of the audits, which cost about $100. The winner of the Take Charge Challenge involving Ottawa, Baldwin City, Paola and Gardner will receive a $100,000 grant.
