OTTAWA – The unemployment rate has dropped in Franklin County. Unemployment dropped from 9.9 percent to 8.3 percent from March to April. At this time last year unemployment was at 8.5 percent. Franklin County’s unemployment rates are higher than the statewide rate of 6.3 percent. Kansas Department of Labor economist Tyler Tenbrink said that despite the high numbers, the job market is starting to bounce back. The month of April saw a 1.3 percent increase in Kansas employment with 17,600 nonfarm jobs gained.
