OTTAWA–Ottawa and Franklin and Osage Counties had some unwanted attention late Saturday night. The National Weather Service issued multiple tornado warnings for the area, and there were several reports of tornadoes. There are no reports of damage or injuries due to the storms. Reading in Lyon County, on the other hand, did not fare so well. Official reports indicate that at least 20 homes were destroyed and 200 other properties damaged. Also, one man was killed and several others injured. The Weather Service says this was the first batch of tornadoes in Kansas during the month of May, which up till now had been unusually quiet in terms of tornadoes.
