OTTAWA — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued an emergency order closing the Yvonne Scrutchfield Day Care Home, a licensed day care home at 607 N. Cedar St., Ottawa. The KDHE said someone living at the home was arrested in connection with a report of a sexual assault of a child enrolled at the day care center filed. “State law allows the Secretary of KDHE to issue such an order when, in the opinion of the Secretary, the order is necessary to protect children in the home from any potential threat to health or safety,” Jonathan Larance, of the KDHE, said. The Ottawa police said Eric Scrutchfield, 27, Ottawa, was booked into the jail after they received a report from a 22-year-old Ottawa woman. He was booked on suspicion of rape, aggravated sodomy, and lewd lascivious behavior, police said.
