WASHINGTON — Memorial Day weekend is one of the biggest weekends for outdoor grilling, but the meat isn’t the only thing to get grilled today. Because of record-high wholesale beef prices last month, you’re going to pay record-high prices for today’s cookout. U.S. Department of Agriculture livestock analyst Shayle Shagam said grocers had to pay record beef prices and were forced to pass the increases on to the consumer. It wasn’t just beef, though. Pork and poultry prices also made a big jump last month, he said.
