GARNETT — Anderson County Sheriff Scot Brownrigg has announced his resignation. Brownrigg will accept a position with a state law enforcement training agency. He said he will stay as sheriff until the department is finished with budgeting for next year.
Anderson County Democratic Party chairman Dean Register said he’ll begin the process of finding Brownrigg’s successor when he receives his written resignation. Democratic officials will convene a caucus and probably select a committee to winnow through the list of candidates, he said. Register said the party will advertise in law enforcement publications in hopes of finding a candidate who’s qualified and able to take over the sheriff’s department as soon and he or she walks in through the door. A candidate must be selected and submitted to Gov. Sam Brownback within 21 days. County Clerk Phyllis Gettler saID the successor will fill the remaining year and a half of Brownrigg’s term. Voters will decide on the sheriff in the November 2012 election.
