OTTAWA — The Ottawa Planning and Codes Enforcement Department gets to see lots of dilapidated buildings and grass lots gone to seed. Now, city planning and codes director Wynndee Lee wants to see the best of Ottawa. The city has started a new curb appeal award for those homeowners who improve their houses and their neighborhoods. The city will try to give the award monthly — but not necessarily every month if no house is truly worthy, Lee said. This sort of homeowner commitment should be recognized and celebrated as it adds to community pride and neighborhood values, she said. Indeed, two properties have already won the award — Richard Warren and Gene Harris for 405 S. willow and Barry Pelton for 434 S. Willow. You can nominate a property for the award by calling the planning and codes department at 229-3620 or e-mail [email protected].
