OTTAWA- Eight go to the hospital, including two children, after two multiple-injury accidents on 1-35 yesterday afternoon. Both accidents happened around 2:30 southwest of Ottawa near the Eisenhower Road overpass. The first accident involved a black pick-up truck driven by 57-year-old Renae Vazquez from South St. Paul, Minnesota who lost control for an undetermined reason and rolled into an embankment. Passengers in that vehicle included 27-year-old Miguel Ramero-Perez from Minneapolis, Minnesota who was in the front seat; 27-year-old Maria Martinez-Leon from Minneapolis, Minnesota; and 3-years-old Evelyn Ramero-Martinez city of residence not listed were in the back seat. The rear seat passengers were ejected while the driver and the front seat passenger were trapped. The front seat occupants were extricated by the Franklin County Ambulance Service and the Ottawa Fire Department. The second accident happened only 13 minutes later when 18-year-old Mariah McIntyre of Kansas City, Missouri struck a parked vehicle with her 1995 white Saturn. The driver of the parked vehicle stopped to help the victims of the first crash and were near the first crash scene when their vehicle was struck. The parked vehicle was unoccupied. McIntyre’s car was carrying 9-years-old Logan Clites of Kansas City, Missouri; 14-years-old Morgan Clites of Kansas City, Missouri; and 12-years-old Jordyn Clites of Kansas City, Missouri. Evelyn Ramero-Martinex and Logan Clites were transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital by separate helicopter ambulances. The other occupants were transported by ground ambulance to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. At this time injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The Ottawa Police Department, Franklin county Sheriff’s Office, and the Kansas Highway Patrol are still investigating the accident.
