A train derailed yesterday east of Osawatomie at the 347th street crossing around noon. According to the Osawatomie Graphic the Union Pacific train was southbound and hauling 169 cars. Sixteen of the cars derailed. No one was injured in the Accident.
Pieces of the wreck stretched all the way to 363rd street, about 16 blocks south of the original wreck site.
Traces of hydrocloric acid were found in one of the cars. The train’s cargo included beans, sugar, oil and coal. No hazardous materials are believed to have been released in the accident.
No cause has been determined at this time.
