OTTAWA — No matter how often you cue Bruce Springsteen, it’s hard to be born to run when you’re bearing handcuffs. After his appearance in court Monday afternoon, a handcuffed teenaged boy took off and tried to escape. He got as far as a funeral home across the street before officers tackled him. Juvenile Justice director Ethel Wallace said the teen took off while a juvenile detention officer was unlocking a door into the center.
It’s rare for someone to try to escape, she said. “In all my years here, I can count on the fingers of one hand of the ones who’ve tried,” she said. She said she expects the youth will be charged for the escape attempt.
