BURLINGAME — An Osage County sheriff’s patrol car collided with a vehicle it was pursuing Monday morning following a bungled burglary. Sheriff Laurie Dunn said her department received a report from a neighbor concerning suspicious activity at a home at 5484 W. 189th Street southeast of Burlingame. When Deputy Dwayne Peoples arrived, a green truck pulling a stock trailer was trying to leave the residence and crashed into another truck turning into the driveway, Dunn said. The green truck tried to take off with peoples in pursuit when the driver of the truck slammed on the brakes. Peoples hit the trailer, Dunn said.. Peoples arrested the driver but a second man fled on foot. No one was injured. Other deputies and a K-9 unit from the Kansas Highway Patrol found a second man in a field behind the home. Dunn said the driver, Dustin Casto, 32, Topeka; is in the Osage County jail facing charges of aggravated battery, theft, criminal trespass and obstruction of the legal process. Kreig Casto, 30, Topeka, is in the jail facing charges of theft, criminal trespass and obstruction of the legal process. No bond was set this afternoon.
