GARNETT — A former Anderson County jailer has filed a federal age discrimination lawsuit against the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department. The Anderson County Review reported that Gerald Slyter, 51, Garnett, said he was dismissed from his job at the jail last year because head jailer Bob Wedel preferred to keep a younger, female employee. Slyter said he was fired when he returned to work from vacation and that he didn’t receive a written reason for the termination according to state regulations. The younger woman who replaced him often received preferential treatment, he said. The Review reported that Sheriff Scot Brownrigg and Wedel had no comment.
