OTTAWA — Franklin County commissioners will host commissioners from five other counties covered by Lake Region Resource Conservation and Development at noon June 20 to discuss what to do with the agency. Because of cuts by federal and state governments, Lake Region will lose its funding and staff. Because of federal and state grants, the counties made minimal allotments for Lake Region. However, because of a deficit-cutting deal between President Obama and House Republicans, funding for RC&Ds across the nation was eliminated. County administrator Lisa Johnson said the commissioners will see if other counties want to increase funding to make up for the cuts. By meeting together with other commissioners, commissioners hope to iron a deal for the agency. For the last 40 years, Lake Region has started or maintains several recycling, water quality and other community projects in Franklin, Miami, Anderson, Linn, Osage and Coffey counties.
