READING — A Kansas Air National Guard member and state trooper whose family was wiped out by the Reading tornado will receive a new car from the group Cars 4 Heroes. Jeffrey Norling and his son were returning from a fishing trip and watched the tornado tear through Reading. His wife and youngest daughter huddled in the master bathroom of their home when the tornado hit. The master bathroom was the only room left when the home was destroyed. Norling and his family will receive the car during a ceremony Wednesday at noon at Nickell Armory in Topeka. Cars 4 Heroes is a not-for-profit group that provides free basic transportation to disadvantaged individuals and veterans.
