LAWRENCE — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is asking for public comments regarding a proposal to clean up the FMC site at 440 N. Ninth St. in Lawrence. The facility was started in the early 1950s and releases of arsenic to the environment occurred during manufacturing operations. FMC Corporation has conducted studies to determine the extent of contamination. The company and state signed an agreement 10 years ago to clean up the site. A copy of the cleanup plan at the Lawrence Public Library and the Curtis State Office Building in Topeka. Public comments can be submitted in writing to the KDHE, Natalie Burris, environmental scientist, KDHE Bureau of Environmental Remediation, 1000 SW Jackson St., Suite 410, Topeka, KS 66612-1367. Comments will be accepted until July 6.
