TOPEKA — Sixty people have been indicted on federal drug trafficking charges in U.S.. District Court in Topeka. Federal, state and local police made sweeps through the Topeka area Tuesday and today. U.S Attorney’s office spokesman Jim Cross said there are 42 people who are now in jail this afternoon as a result of the raids. All 60 defendants are charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, with some of them facing additional charges, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said. The indictments are the product of two investigations led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, in cooperation with the Topeka Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The investigations cover a two-year period.
